Reasons why our puppies stay with us a minimum of 14.5 - 16 weeks of age.......
Many breeders have their little puppies go to new homes between the ages of 8 - 12 weeks old (some even younger). We feel that this time is very important for them to remain with the breeder.
Immune Systems... Many things can compromise their tiny little immune systems. POOR GENETICS STRESS CHANGES TRAVEL ETC.
Many diseases are airborne like the deadly Parvo Virus and other diseases can remain on the ground for up to 10 years. IT IS OUR INTENT & GOAL TO IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE BUILD THEIR TINY IMMUNE SYSTEMS TO THE HIGHEST HEALTHY LEVEL THEY CAN HAVE!!
6 - 14.5 weeks old
-Their mom's immunity is wearing off and they are slowly building their own. They have very little resistance until 12 weeks against even a cold virus. If STRESSED immune system goes down further. CHANGES AND STRESSFULL TIMES can lower immunity! Weaning and starting solid food, Vet trips...travel/shots. There might be illnesses at the clinic that they are exposed to. If they are going to have allergic reactions, it will be after the 2nd shot.
~Puppy skills and manners are taught by mom, siblings and other dogs...learning not to bite, chew or be aggressive, to play together, etc. ~This is an important time for a breeder to see areas and or issues that need to be addressed before going to a new home.
PURCHASING A PUPPPY AT EIGHT WEEKS MEANS: 2 more puppy shots, Rabie shot that =3 trips to Vets, travel, stress and cost to YOU.......minimum of $200. & time. If by chance they get diarrhea, or vomiting, or stop eating, or a cold during this time when their immunities are not strong = Trips to Vet ( possibly many), many tests to see that they do not have a deadly virus or parasites and to determine cause, if dehydrated - put on fluids, can stay up to days in hospital and the cost .......minimum of $450-$500., much time, care and stress for YOU. Then there is JUVENILE HYPOGLYCEMIA..Yorkies will outgrow the risk of getting this deadly disease usually by 4 - 5 mo. of age. The medical cost and heartache for this is VERY HIGH.

Structure - Size - Weight - Personalities - Coloring-Looks - Health THERE IS NO BREEDER THAT CAN ACCURATELY PREDICT ANY OF THESE, EVEN AT 16 WEEKS OLD. One of the hardest things to do is guess or estimate what your puppy will be as an adult. The only thing we have to go on is experience of past litters and the genetics of our dogs. Puppies can go back 6 generations for genes!
Lady Belle is 8.4 lbs. Dark Blue/Dark Gold. Same litter and mom 6.8 lbs - dad 4.7lbs. Both have very different personalities.
Sheba is 3.4 lbs. Light Blue/Light Gold This is very common in litters of Yorkies.
Just like a human baby or a young child do you know: Structure & size....Will they be tall or short, small boned or large boned and have muscle or be thin or heavy? Weight................... What will be their weight as adults? Personality .............Their adult personalities are determined by genetics, start in life and the learned paths. Coloring & looks......Making them a unique breed....each Yorkie (like humans) will look totally different. Born black, it will take 2 years for a Yorkie to get their full coloring. Health......................A healthy start is so important. Focus on prevention not cure...
...BETWEEN 14 - 16 WEEKS A BREEDER WILL HAVE A BETTER IDEA OF THESE AND SHOULD BE ABLE BY THEN TO HELP A NEW PROSPECTIVE FAMILY WITH A LITTLE PUPPY THAT WOULD BE RIGHT FOR THEM. THEIR LITTLE BODIES WILL BE SO MUCH MORE DEVELOPED, STRONGER AND HEALTHIER BY THIS TIME.,ALSO.
A RESPONSIBLE BREEDER TAKES THE TIME, CARE & FUNDS TO HELP MAKE THE TRANSITION TO A NEW HOME AS EASILY AS POSSIBLE.
Shame -shame on the puppy mills & irresponsible breeders that wean these tiny precious bundles of love at 6 to 11 weeks and send them out the door or out a kennel cage....not really investing any time, cost, care, love, or socializing, etc.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A bit of information on the sizes of Yorkies: Very Small 2-3.5 lbs. Small 4 - 5.5 lbs. Medium 6 - 7 lbs. Large 8 - 10 lbs. Any under 3.5 pounds can have many health risks. Any over 10 pounds usually are overweight or poorly bred.
A responsible breeder of top quality- champion bloodline- healthy- beautiful- puppies.
